2025 Subaru Outback: Specs, Features, and More

Very few vehicles have reached the level of renown commanded by the Subaru Outback. It represents the perfect blend of family-oriented practicality, city-friendly economy, and trail-tackling chops, and its iconic station wagon body style continues to be a crowd pleaser in a world increasingly dominated by big trucks and compact SUVs.

It’s been around for nearly three decades now, and despite many upgrades over the years, the Outback remains true to its roots. Here’s what’s new, and what diehard fans can expect when they test drive a 2025 Outback at a dealership near Destin this year.

What’s New for the 2025 Subaru Outback?

Because the Outback just got an aesthetic upgrade for the 2024 model year, the 2025 Outback receives few changes. This biggest update is that some trim-specific features are now standard-issue, whereas before, they were optional upgrades.

For instance, the midrange Outback Limited now comes with a power moonroof, heated rear seats, the 11.6-inch infotainment display, and upgraded driver assistance features.

Pricing remains the same as well; the 2025 Outback starts out at just $28,895, same as the outgoing model year.

2025 Subaru Outback Trims

As before, the Outback is available in a wide variety of trims. Here’s the full list, along with starting MSRP:

Base $28,895
Premium $31,195
Onyx Edition $36,105
Limited $37,855
Touring $40,345
Wilderness $39,960
Onyx Edition XT $39,360
Limited XT $40,195
Touring XT $42,795

This selection guarantees there’s an Outback available for everyone shopping for a Subaru SUV in the Florida Panhandle, regardless of budget.

2025 Subaru Outback Engine and Performance Specs

The Outback is available with two different powertrain options.

2025 Subaru Outback Engine and Performance SpecsBase, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring trims all get the standard Subaru BOXER 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder, which puts out 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. This engine allows for the maximum fuel economy of 26 MPG in the city and 32 on the highway, and enables a towing capacity of 2,700 pounds.

XT and Wilderness Outback models get a beefier 2.4-liter turbocharged BOXER engine. This powerplant puts out 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, and the additional grunt allows for 3,500 pounds of max towing.

Regardless of which model you choose, all Outback models come with Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD with X-MODE. All Outbacks also come with a Lineartronic CVT, as well as Vehicle Dynamics Control with Active Torque Vectoring and Traction Control System guaranteed to command the road, even while driving off the beaten path.

2025 Subaru Outback Exterior Dimensions and Features

Each Outback model except the Wilderness have the same exterior measurements: 191.9 inches long, 74.2 inches wide, 66.1 inches tall with roof rails, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance. The Outback Wilderness has a slightly shorter and wider profile, but it also boasts 9.5 inches of clearance.

The available paint colors for the 2025 Subaru Outback include Geyser Blue, Cosmic Blue Pearl, Crimson Red Pearl, Dark Mahogany Pearl, Crystal White Pearl, Autumn Green Metallic, Ice Silver Metallic, Magnetite Gray Metallic, and Crystal Black Silica.

Depending on the trim, the Outback comes with either 17-inch or 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, which are available in a variety of finishes. Most models come standard with all-season tires, but the Wilderness gets a burlier set of A/Ts.

Other exterior features include LED Steering Responsive Headlights, standard raised roof rails, and a power moonroof available in all but the Base version.

2025 Subaru Outback Interior Dimensions and Features

Thanks to its unique body style, the Outback is able to offer some truly impressive interior space for both passengers and cargo. Here’s a quick breakdown:

Head room (front/rear) 40.1 in./39.1 in.
Shoulder room (front/rear) 58.1 in./57.4 in.
Leg room (front/rear) 42.8 in./39.5 in.
Total max passenger volume 109.0 cu. ft.
Cargo volume behind 2nd row 32.6 cu. ft.

Plenty of room for the whole crew, plus more gear than you can shake a walking stick at. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, too.

The Base model comes with a 7.0-inch digital touch screen display, but all other trims get the upgraded 11.6-inch Starlink multimedia system, which comes complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi capability. A Harmon Kardon premium audio system is also standard on nearly all trim levels.

Other interior amenities include dual climate control, USB A and USB C input ports, and available rear charging ports.
